A carton sealer tapes the top and bottom of a filled box automatically. It is usually the cheapest piece of packaging automation you can buy and the fastest to pay for itself, which is why it is the first machine most warehouses buy.

Semi-automatic or automatic?
Semi-automatic sealers need an operator to fold the top flaps and push the carton in. They suit variable box sizes and volumes up to about 500 cartons a day. They are cheaper, smaller and there is almost nothing to go wrong.
Automatic sealers fold the flaps and seal without an operator. They are the right call above roughly 500 cartons a day, or wherever you want an unmanned station in a conveyor line. Random-size automatic sealers adjust to each carton as it arrives, which matters if you are a 3PL running mixed client stock.

How much does a carton sealer cost?

What tape do carton sealers use?
Standard 48mm or 72mm carton sealing tape, either hot melt acrylic or water-activated depending on the head fitted. We can supply tape as well as machines.
Can a carton sealer handle different box sizes?
Semi-automatic machines need manual adjustment between sizes, which takes a minute or two. Random-size automatic sealers adjust themselves to each carton. If you run mixed sizes constantly, the random-size machine is worth the extra spend.
Do I need a carton erector as well?
Not necessarily, but they pair well. An erector at the start of the line and a sealer at the end removes almost all the manual box handling. Many customers buy the sealer first and add the erector once volume grows.
How much labour does a carton sealer save?
Hand-taping a carton properly takes 15 to 25 seconds. A sealer does it in 2 to 3. On 500 cartons a day that is roughly two hours of labour back every shift.
What servicing do they need?
Tape head blade changes, belt checks and general cleaning. We supply a maintenance schedule with every machine and hold wear parts in Melbourne.
